SUMMARY:Us Coast Guard Auxiliary Vessel Safety Checks
DESCRIPTION:The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will be conducting\ncomplementary Vessel Safety Checks at the docks of Lake Diane Plaza on Saturday\, June 29th\, from 10 AM to 2 PM.\nVessel Safety Checks (VSCs) are conducted as a public service by the Coast Guard\nAuxiliary. They help boat owners by examining the safety equipment required for\nrecreational boats and familiarizing boat owners with changes to equipment\nrequirements and safety concerns.\nA decal is awarded upon successful completion of a vessel safety check\,\ndemonstrating that the boat was found to be in compliance with boating\nregulations. While the decal in no way prevents future inspections or citations\, law\nenforcement personnel performing safety inspections will often bypass a boat\ndisplaying a VSC decal because it shows you are serious about boating safety. A\nlist of safety equipment required by Michigan law can be found at:\nhttps://www.boat–ed.com/michigan/handbook/page/52/Required–Equipment–\nChecklist/\nThis is a complementary service provided to boat owners. No violations are\nreported and\, since the Auxiliary is a not a Law Enforcement agency\, no citations\nare issued. Boaters are also reminded that vessel safety exams are good only for the\ncalendar year in which they are received. Be certain you have your boat\nregistration\, that all navigation lights are in working order\, and that your distress\nsignal flares have not expired!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVessel safety checks are not limited to power boats\, either. Paddlecraft are\ninvolved in a disproportionate number of boating accidents\, and a VSC performed\non a canoe\, kayak or sailboat will help ensure a safe day on the water while\nenjoying your sport.\nTake advantage of this opportunity and\, in the meantime\, SAFE BOATING!\nThe Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the U.S. Coast\nGuard and supports the Coast Guard in nearly all mission areas. Pre-registration is required\, and lunch will be provided courtesy of the Lake Diane Association. Arrive no later than 8:50 a.m.\, with the class beginning at 9:00 a.m. and running until around 4:30 p.m. The class will allow students to earn their boater certification in one day.
