I would like to introduce myself. I am Scott Preston , the new president of Lake Diane Properties Owners Association.
There were also new Trustees along with new officers of the Board elected. I would like to welcome Roger Giallorati, Terry Zibbell, Ray Neely and Kevin Mack as new Board members. They along with Dan Fleck, Larry Weiss, Fred Lietzke, Pat Pitzen and myself make up the Associations nine member Board.
The Officers of the Board are: Scott Preston-President, Roger Giallorati-V.P., Pat Pitzen-Treasure and Terry Zibbell-Secretary. I expect the transition from the old Board to the new Board will be seamless.
I would like to thank Debbie Hintz for all the work and time she contributed to the help with the election. Thanks Deb.
I would like to thank Ron Miller, Donna Davidson , Al Vitous and Karen Watt for their past years of hard work and contributions they have made as members of the Association Board. All have contributed tremendously to the lake with a special thanks to Karen. Thank you Karen.
I would also like to thank Dan Fleck. Although he is still a member of the Board he has stepped down as President after 10 years. Through Dan’s years of hard work and perseverance the last years and with the help of many people on the lake, Dan and his wife Shannon have helped make Lake Diane the gem that it is. On behalf off all Lake Diane, thanks Dan and Shannon for all the hard work you have done. I know I can always count on you in the future along with all past Board members to help us out.
EventsThis weekend the 4th of July festivities begin on the lake. The Boat Parade, Fireworks, and Christmas in July Lighting Contest will be on Saturday. Please check website for all details and times of events.
There is also a band at the Shelter House on Sunday. This is a non-sponsored Association event. I do know that you have to be a member to attend or with a member to enjoy this function.
Later on in the calendar year there is the Boat Party @ Gooneyville Sandbar on July 24th.
On July 31st , the Lake Diane Golf Outing is planned. Contact Ray Neely @ 517-254-4209 if interested. Hurry, Ray can only take so many foursomes, when it’s full it is full.
The Annual Family Corn Roast and Volleyball/Horseshoe Tournament is August 21st and finally the Hayride/Bonfire is tentatively scheduled for October 16th at the Shelter House. Please check the website for times or date changes for the fun events.
State of the LakeThere are three things that in the next year I see as areas that need to be addressed aggressively.
Top of the list are the weeds in the lake. We as a board working together, are going to come up with a short and long term plan to attack the weed problem. To help us I have Tom Owens coming to the lake on July 2nd. Tom is a biologist from EnviroScience. EnviroScience planted weevils in our lake a few years ago to help with the milfoil problem. He will reevaluate our weevils and milfoil problem. Also I have contacted Eric Bacon from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Eric works in the Aquatic Nuisance Control Department. I want to see if Eric can help us with an Aquatic Management Plan. We will never eradicate all the weeds in the lake, nor should we try, but we should be able to make it less of a nuisance for everyone. Remember we do have fisherman on the lake.
Secondly, there is the goose problem. I have contacted Casey Reitz of the DNRE-Wildlife Division. She has sent Dan Fleck and I all the necessary paperwork to obtain permits for next years Canada Geese Nest Destruction Program. We also need the necessary permits for the Goose Roundup Program, if we so choose to do these programs next year. There is a ton of paperwork and footwork that has to be done before the December deadline. We rounded up 42 eggs this past spring in our first nest destruction program.
Last is the LDPOA By-Laws. Our by-laws are the “constitution” of how the Association runs as a corporation and how it is managed by the Board members. The current by-laws has served its purpose for all these past years. It is clear that we need to bring the document up to date. Therefore the July Board meeting we will be appointing two Board members along with at least two Association members in good standing, to form a committee to update, modify or change our antiquated by-laws. If you are interested please attend the next meeting.
Other Lake Tidbits-Paving of West Diane Drive and Horn Drive will start some time in late August/early September.
-Construction of storage shed at Shelter House. Check website when date is established.
-New restaurant on lake. The Rusty Anchor. Please show your support along with supporting the store.
Finally I encourage everyone in the Association to look and see what their Annual Dues are providing for the Lake Community;
-Canada geese control, lake monitoring, weed control, family corn roast, garage sale, playground equipment, hay ride, park and boat ramp maintenance, contributions to the one of the best fireworks show around and the golf outing. This year your dues are helping to pay for a new storage shed at the Shelter House along with enclosure of the Shelter House.
That is it for my first letter as president. Oh, wasn’t the Annual Garage Sale great! It’s the most people I’ve seen in a long time at the sale. Feel free to stop by anytime to talk. Enjoy our great lake.
Scott Preston,
President.
